WSOA student, Ludwig Rodriguez, wins first-place in the ACSA National Steel Design Competition
罢丑别听聽and the聽 announced the winners of the 2023 Steel Design Student Competition last week.
The competition recognizes 11 exceptional projects, in two categories, that explore a variety of design issues related to the use of steel in design and construction.
The 2023 ACSA/AISC Steel Design Student Competition offered architecture students the opportunity to compete in two separate categories. Category I challenged students to design 鈥淎 Place for the Spirit鈥� on a campus, welcoming to all, where members of the campus community and visitors can learn about and express spirituality. Category II was open, offering students the opportunity to select a site and building program using steel as the primary material.
For Category I students were challenged to design 鈥淎 Place for the Spirit鈥� on a campus, and Woodbury School of Architecture’s own Ludwig Rodriguez won first prize in this category with their project titled “The Sylvan Hideaway”!
Project Description:
鈥淭he Sylvan Hideaway, located on a suburban university campus, is a space that allows one to find spirituality, peace, and a connection with nature. Due to the nearby freeways that make it difficult to reach urban parks and the lack of green spaces on campus, there is a need for a place where students can find peace of mind. The Hideaway’s careful integration into the site, situated furthest from the concrete freeway and closest to the Verdugos, offers views of the surrounding community, provides student-oriented spaces, and facilitates spiritual experiences all around.”
