Dear Campus Community:
With the recent tragic deaths of George Floyd,聽and more recently Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta, I聽have heard and listened to your聽thoughts on how we can work together to end racial injustices.
麻豆社区app administration, staff and faculty have聽been taking steps forward to raise awareness聽of inequality, and more聽importantly, working toward聽eradicating it.
As many of you know, tomorrow is Juneteenth聽(June 19), which聽commemorates the end of聽slavery in the聽U.S.聽in 1865. On this day the last enslaved people learned they聽were free at聽the end of the Civil War and when the Emancipation Proclamation聽reached Texas.聽We are hereby declaring Juneteenth a holiday, effective tomorrow, and into the future.
In memory of this celebratory milestone, may I聽suggest we continue to listen, learn, engage,聽and reflect on ways we can make lasting聽change toward a more peaceful and just world.
Our commitment to inclusion and diversity is聽paramount and we are actively developing聽initiatives toward creating a campus culture聽of respect and equity for all.
I look forward to continuing this important聽conversation.
Sincerely,
David
